FAMILY : father; Earnest Macmillan. mother; Giselle Macmillan née Montague. siblings; Two older brothers, Alexander and Aaron Macmillan. history! Born the third son of Earnest and Giselle Macmillan, Arthur has felt the shadow of his older brothers since the moment he was born. Alexander was already mature well beyond his six years and more clever than most children getting ready to start Hogwarts. Aaron, at the tender age of four, was already riding a broomstick better than his older brother. The Macmillans were an old, wizarding family, but Arthur's parents was the furthest thing from snooty, high-class purebloods the other Macmillans were. Despite the status of their name, Earnest and Giselle found a home in a nice, muggle neighborhood and the Ambleside Macmillan boys were raised with a very good understanding of muggle culture. It was a bit more difficult of course, to keep up the sort of lifestyle one would in a wizarding community, but the family didn't mind one bit and made do with a few extra concealment and disillusionment charms.
Before Hogwarts, the Macmillan boys, contrary to the norm, were sent to a muggle primary school for their basic education. Earnest and Giselle felt it was important for the children to know muggle history and literature and learn things like grammar and arithmetic. They would receive additional lessons at home about wizarding history and theory and not a single one of them complained. They were taught that as wizards, they had a responsibility to know of both cultures they lived in. It was a shock for Arthur when he came to Hogwarts and discovered that purebloods and muggleborns were so ignorant of the other's way of life.
Put into the habit of doing homework and studying at a young age, slipping into the natural rhythm of Hogwarts was rather simple for Arthur. He was seemingly a model student, until the professors paired him up with a struggling student who needed help. Though it was hardly his intention to be cruel, Arthur was always incredibly impatient with the student he was meant to be tutoring and had a tendency to snap at them. He has since learned that it was best to try to contain himself in such circumstances and to save his snide comments for non-academic related things, but it still doesn't win him any friends. His third year, he tried out for the Quidditch team and was put on the reserve team. A year later, when one of the chaser positions became available, was promoted to a starter position.
The recent events have Arthur incredibly stressed and his already short fuse has seemed to have gotten shorter, especially since the death of Thomas Anderson. Arthur had been incredibly close to Tom and the death of his best friend has devastated him and he's not entirely sure how he's meant to deal with it. While he's infuriated that the Ministry doesn't seem to be taking more action to capture the ones responsible for the deaths, he doesn't think it would do anyone any good to try to take matters into his own hands.
personality! Arthur is most teenage boys. He's a little bit awkward and self conscious, so he makes up for it by being sarcastic and acting over confident. There are often times that he's a bit too sarcastic and comes off as cruel and times that he's a bit too over confident and it comes off as arrogant, but Arthur tends to brush it off with a simple "You just don't get my humour, that's all. It's all right, not many people do." Of course, each boy has That Girl who makes all that cockiness go right out the window and turns him into an utterly inept mess, and for Arthur, that girl changes every once in a while but what remains the same is that he places her on a pedestal and has builds her up to such a point that even she probably wouldn't be able to meet his expectations of her.
Arthur holds extremely high standards of himself and works extremely hard to reach them. With two older brothers, Arthur has always felt that he had to work a little bit harder and push himself a little bit further. He wasn't daft enough to think that they would love him any less if he didn't get as good marks as Alex or wasn't as good at Quidditch as Aaron was, but he wanted to outshine them and not just because he wants his own list of recognitions, but he feels that if he's just as capable of being great if they were and he wants to be the best that he can be. Though incredibly driven and focused, Arthur is not lacking in Ravenclaw traits. He is incredibly sharp and quick-witted and sees everything as a learning experience. Arthur is quick to analyze every situation he's in and tries to make the most out of everything.
appearance! Arthur is not the sort of boy who turns heads on the street with his extremely manly build or rugged good looks, although he very much wishes he were. Tall and a bit on the thin side of averagely built, Arthur has an all right build for chaser, though it's certainly not ideal. While he's far from tripping over his own limbs and falling all over himself with clumsiness, Arthur is not completely sure and confident in his own skin though he's growing into himself more and more lately.
Though he may not be devastatingly handsome, Arthur is a good looking young man and is quite approachable when he smiles. Unfortunately, that's not an easy sight to see and Arthur's default expression is a thoughtful, tight-knitted frown.
